DESCRIPTION OF THE KNOLL

This impressive Victorian residence stands in its own grounds and is surrounded by wooded countryside. The pier at Lakeside is a five-minute walk away, where there are regular steamers to Bowness, and a path from the house through farmland and woodland leads to the small village of Finsthwaite. The Knoll has recently been elegantly refurbished, and retains an ornate staircase, stained glass windows, cornices and fireplaces. Accommodation is luxurious with all bedrooms containing extra touches, such as direct-dial telephone, clock radios, a variety of teas, home-baked biscuits and fluffy bathrobes. The sitting room has an open log fire, as does the dining room where an extensive breakfast buffet, followed by a traditional Lakeland breakfast, is served. Many guests return for the outstanding three-course candlelit dinners cooked by the two delightful owners, Tracey Watson and Jenny Meads.
