Ignore the factory buildings as you follow the lane towards this inviting pub/restaurant and anticipate the expansive views of Morecambe Bay sands that can be admired from teh veranda or the conservatory dining room. Lunchtimes bring carte or fixed-price meals in the latter, or the bar menu is a big hit, with its jazzy sandwiches on home-baked bread and heart-warming dishes like grilled Waberthwaite sausages with date chutney. A la carte dinner in the restaurant shows all the fingerprints of co-owner John Tovey: the curtain rises at 8, and customers are treated to a menu of country-house dishes that are loyal to the Lakeland food network. Typically, you might begin with potted shrimps or smoked chicken and avocado salad, before rack of Holker Estate saltmarsh lamb with garlic and rosemary, or pan-fried tuna with lemon and prawn butter; finally, you can close the show in true Tovey style with sticky toffee pudding, or chocolate Mascarpone cheesecake.
