"Nice small site - only 1.5 acres...
Surrounded on one side by soneones back garden, on 2 sides by houses, and then on the other beautiful views over the Lake District.
We are not members of the Caravan and Camping Club, but were made to feel welcome - good cheap fees - 6.50 a night, but the poor toilet facilities reflect this - along with the fact there is just the one toilet, no showers etc.
Goes to show - you get what you pay for - we only stayed because of certain circumstances, and probably would not choose to go back, although people who do tend to go there have ben there time and time again.
Oh yeah - did I mention the 2 cockrals in the next field too?? 3.15am they started!!!!!! "

Thank goodness for the pool. Very probable I will be returning soon I hope. "

We met some wonderful regulars on the site who are there most weekends of the year, the staff were very helpful, the facilities were ample, they were very clean toilet and shower blocks, very nice with flowers too! there was a kitchen room available with sinks to wash up, an oven to cook on and a freezer to store your frozen stuff! a small games room with what looked like table tennis and some games machines, and a great swimming pool, with lovely clean changing room facilities. Right on the beach with a childrens play area accross from the entrance, lovely golden sands to play in too!
our kids loved it!

"This is a site that I first went to as a child 25 yrs ago with my parents and enjoyed many weekends and weeks there. Having not been there for some 20 years until a couple of years ago I was pleasantly suprised that little had changed. The site is still as clean and well run by friendly staff, the shower and toilet facilities are first class and the outdoor pool has been replaced with an indoor pool which does have an attendant there, younger children must be accompanied by an adult. There is water available close by and a refuse area. There is also a launderette and facilities to do the washing up.
The beach is a 5 min walk from the camping area and is ideal for long uninterupted walks. Haverigg town centre is only a 10-15 min walk away and little has changed there down the years.
If you like hussle and bussle then this isn't the place for you, but if you are looking for a place with great scenery, peace and quiet, somewhere to relax and a base to explore Cumbia, this is ideal.
The kids always found something to do and you can drive to the nearby sea wall and do a spot of sea fishing. You can find anything you want within a 30 min drive, from supermarkets to chinese takeaway.
We look forward to going back everytime we leave and have just booked our first visit of the year there for the may bank holiday.
All in all it's a great place to relax and unwind and we can't wait to go back. "

There's an electic hook up if you need it.
The only down side was that there was no shops within 7/8 miles so take everything you need with you. The farmer may even sell you a few eggs or milk if you ask nicely.
The estuary is across the road, but the beach is quite a walk away, nice walk if its a good day, you walk along a nature reserve to get there.
And to top it all off it only cost us £2 a tent!!! "

There is no shop and no pub that you could walk to unless you are walkers in the first place, there is a play park of some sort but having no children with us I never went to investigate, still a very nice and quiet site if other user's behave. "

Sex Pistols Experience
"From the second the curtain came up, it was clear that this was no ordinary tribute band. England’s Sex Pistols Experience ripped through “God Save The Queen,” “Bodies,” “Liar” (dedicated to Tony Blair), “Anarchy In The U.K.” and every other Pistols classic one could think of. But it’s the band’s attention to detail that really sets them apart. Johnny Forgotten (vocals), Kid Vicious (bass), Steve Clones (guitar) and Paul Crook (drums) capture not only the look and sound, but also the onstage swagger and irreverence.
However, a band paying tribute to the circus that was The Sex Pistols also sends out an invitation for chaos - with some audience members throwing cups and bottles at the band. Eventually, Johnny became agitated and left the stage, leaving Vicious to handle vocals and taunting the bottle throwers between songs. We left as the atmosphere became increasingly chaotic, thinking, “Wow! That’s what a real Sex Pistols show must have been like!” I hope the actions of a few idiots didn’t ruin the chance of Dallas getting another dose of this Experience. "

Dizzy Lizzy
"Pinch me someone, is there something in my pint? For as the smoke clears and the sirens wail, I'm flattened by the distinctive twin Les Paul attack coupled with 'those' drums and 'that' bass. This is incredible. The frontman, not only looks like Phil Lynott, sings like Phil Lynott, but he's got the attitude just right.
Introduced only as 'H', who is this guy? The set runs through all the classics you'd expect, Jailbreak, Boys, Warriors, Emerald, Cowboy Song etc but it is the little things that make them stand out from the other Lizzy clones. The backdrop, for instance, was spot on and although it says 'Dizzy Lizzy', you have to smile.
It Took me right back to Hammersmith circa '77 and you can't get better than that...The boys are back in town? No, it just sounds and looks like it. "

Bluesblasters
"A brilliant six piece band comprising of Chris (Wizz) Gee on vocals/harmonica, Andy Schemet bass, Henry Quick drums, John Brett guitar, John Dickinson guitar and Paul Minshull on keyboards. Between them they have 150 years of gigging experience. Their vast experience showed in the two sets as most of the songs they performed were penned by themselves, and very good too. Starting with "Louisiana 12 Bar, "Big City Small Town" and "Honey You Should See Me Now" they followed with a great song by Lightning Hopkins "Nothing But The Blues". Also in this first set we were treated to some great songs from The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Chuck Berry and others. As the first set drew to a close more and more folk came in and sat eagerly awaiting the start of the next set. The lads got underway with a great Chuck Berry song "Never Can Tell" after which they went into overdrive, with more from The Thunderbirds and lots more of their own songs. "Mercury Blues" by James Harman featured Johnny on slide guitar along with the Thunderbirds "Why Get Up". "Red Red Eyes" "She's Ready Now" and "4 Time Boogie" all their own songs were excellent. As they finished for the night, the band members in turn walk off stage whilst playing "My Heart Is Always Missing You" leaving Chris to finish it alone, great end to a great night. Come back soon, Cheers Bill. "

"The popular blues band returned with a foot stompin toe tappin finger crackin gig. All the numbers played were up tempo and catchy and the piano player must have been on something as he was heard on every number. Its good to see a band enjoying themselves and also good to see people on the dance floor. Although not a blues fan myself this kind of blues suits me I call it good time blues. The band left to cheers from the crowd and that says enough for me. "

"Another new band another success, the BB'S brought their own brand of rockin blues to the kings and did they rock, yes they did. They put some self penned numbers in and kept the sounds chugging away, the audience were on the dance floor shaking a leg or two as the band relentlessly played rockin tunes without losing the pace once. Normally with blues bands they lapse into the slow numbers but not these lads, two numbers self penned which stood out were Red Red Eyes and the final number which was a good semi slow ballady type called Always Missing You..A very pleasing debut and well worth a second booking."

Bluesblasters
"One of the most popular bands to perform at BJ’s Blues Club (and quite rightly so!).
Is it their musicianship, charisma, professionalism or stage antics that make them so irresistible? I would suggest all the above actually!
Starting off (as always) with the guitar of John Brett and ‘Lousiana 12 bar’ the Bluesblasters launched into a tirade of rockin’ blues that had the very enthusiastic and knowledgeable blues audience rocking with the band every step of the way.
I’m not going mention the whole set list, but my personal favourite is the Fabulous Thunderbird’s number ‘Full time lover’ featuring the awesome lead guitar of John Brett. Apart from the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Chuck Berry,I should mention that the majority of the high calibre Bluesblasters material is actually self-penned by Chris Gee.
The band consists of the rather quiet (but nonetheless magnificent) John Dickinson on rhythm guitar, Andy Schemet on bass guitar/backing vocals & fun, the small but potent force of Henry Quick on drums, Paul Minshull on world class keyboards, Chris (Wizz) Gee on absolute supreme vocals/harmonica and John Brett on stunning lead guitar and lunacy.
It’s easy to get carried away with superlatives during a review, but the Bluesblasters lend themselves to superlatives. Even though their two cd’s are excellent (my 3 year old dances to nothing else!) the stage show of the Bluesblasters just has to be experienced.
What really strikes me about the Bluesblasters is that they look they’re just having a bit of a laugh on stage. However, when you’re that good, you simply make it look easy!

Mo'Indigo
"It's obvious that playing on the road with folks like Charles Walker, Earl Gaines and Ruby Turner has rubbed off on Mo'Indigo, a tight R&B quintet from merry old England. In fact Charles Walker is the producer of The Blues Inside. The Deep Soul great duets with Indigo lead singer Harry Lang on the terrific "You Can Have Her", which builds to a tumultuous climax of Soul singing. While my initial interest in this project was the Walker connection I was surprised there's even better cuts here, my favorite being the shimmering ballad "Am I Losing You", featuring a yearning vocal by Lang and icy cool organ by Frazer Wigg. Also great is the Tex-Mex opener "Hurricane Song" which reminds me of Nick Lowe's Cowboy Outfit years. The band can also reach deep in the Blues as on the slow burning "When An Angel Falls From Grace" and they Stax it up on the Albert King-like "Fool Around Love" highlighted by the WattSoul Horns (Richard Watts, Ben Gates). Guitarist Robin Carr even squeezes out some Albert licks on the track right properly. Well done. Dylann DeAnna"

Tony Dowler Band
"The Tony Dowler Band put on another superb live show ... again. The set consisted of a mix of their own songs interspersed with classic covers from the likes of Rory Gallagher and ZZ Top. From the opening strains of Shotgun Wedding it is quite clear this band knows their stuff and in Tony Dowler they have a guitarist with few betters. The Rory Gallagher classic Tattoed Lady was enough reason in itself to justify being there and it was difficult to find fault with any of their set. This is a very powerful 3 piece line up who enjoy what they are doing and they certainly do it well.

Tony Dowler Band
"Last Saturday the blues came to Nailsworth in the shape of renowned guitarist Tony Dowler and his band. Although a virtual unknown in the South West, Tony has a sizable following in the North amongst blues afficionados, as well as throughout Europe. From Saturday's performance it is clear why.
Combining the virtuosity of Rory Gallagher, the feel of Eric Clapton and the intensity of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tony and his band ripped through a tasty selection of original material (Shotgun Wedding), blues standards (Hey Joe, Crossroads) and fiery interpretations of more recent blues classics, such as BB King's "Thrill is Gone" and Rory Gallagher's "Tattooed Lady" and "As the Crow Flies". From the first tones of their opening number, Rory Gallagher's classic "Messin with the kid", the talent and sheer musical prowess of the band was in clear evidence. The aforementioned "As the crow flies", which closed the set and began with Dowler alone on stage producing a staggering display of slide guitar playing, was without doubt the highlight of the 2 hour show. It was best summed up one member of the audience who commented "this guy is as good as Jimmy Page". I could not put it better myself.
Although steeped in the tradition of the classic blues power trio, the Tony Dowler Band are a cut above your typical band, delivering each song with the conviction, passion and power often lacking in today's live music scene. Although Tony was clearly the star of the show, the contributions of tasty bassist Dave Smylie and powerhouse drummer Steve should not be underestimated. Also an honourable mention to local band "sweet fresh air", who opened the show and whose more acoustic and laid-back folk-blues-style perfectly complemented the headliners.
The band were clearly delighted by the reception they got from a packed Comrades club and treated the audience a blistering encore before leaving the stage with a promise that they would be back soon. Local promoter Roger Fauske of DMS Productions commented that on the strength of the excellent attendance and enthusiastic audience reaction, he hoped to bring back the band to a larger venue in the Stroud area before the New Year. Watch this space and don't miss it when they do. If you can't wait, their work can be sampled at www.tonydowlerband.co.uk. "

Go Ape
"Go Ape is a national company, situated in forests around Britain, they let you swing from tree to tree with the aid of rope swings, rope bridges, high wires and zip wires. This does require a certain level of fitness, but an 80 year old managed to get round the course. Activites are graded like ski slopes, Green, Red and Black, Green being easy and black being hard. The scariest activity is the "tarzen rope swing", you feel like you are free falling 60 ft in the air! The course took us 3 hours to complete, but this wasnt helped by the cold and wet weather. Can be done in 2 hours. It costs £20, and you get a full safety talk, demo and are supervised on the first course, then left to your own devices for the next 4 courses. Highly recommended!

South Lakes Wild Animal Park
"South Lakes Wild Animal Park is unique open air wild animal park and set in a fantastic location at the edge of the Lake District National Park. It was the Lake District's Official Top Visitor Attraction for 2005 and is a world specialist for the conservaton of the Sumatran Tiger which can be seen amazingly in a wild Lakeland setting. As well as the famous tigers it features all the animals you expect at a wild animal park from rhinos to lemurs, marmosets and monkeys along with a troop of Baboons and Giraffes. Only been open a few years but has become really popular."

South Lakes Wild Animal Park
"What an amazing day at South Lakes Wild Animal Park! I didn't know the place existed until, on a drive out with my 24 year-old daughter, she said "Dad - I've just seen a giraffe on that hillside!" We investigated, and found the South Lakes Wild Animal Park. Lions were basking in the sun, tigers quietly demolishing prey, emus wandering about, lemurs of many varieties leaping from fence to branch, giraffes as high as telephone poles, and rhinos the size of a large garden shed - and many times as solid. The staff, of which there are many all over the park, were extremely friendly and informative. There is a pleasant tea shop, and extremely well-stocked souvenir shop. A miniature railway takes kiddies through the centre of the park, and of course dad is on board purely to look after junior (he says).
There are snakes, and quite a lots of bats, there are penguins doing aquatic ballet in the pool right under your nose, numerous birds (the Australian black swan is lovely), there are bears, and apes of many kinds - in other words, a Noah's Ark of wonderful wildlife. A must-see place, and very accessible - follow the A590 towards Barrow, and turn left at the roundabout to Dalton-in-Furness, follow the signs through the village and back over the A590, to the park.

Black Cock Inn
"Friendly, popular pub set in the picturesque village of Broughton. Has benches outside where you can enjoy the sun and watch the world go by, and an open log fire inside for when it gets a bit nippy outside. Also has a decent variety of real ales."

Amigo's Mexican Steak House
"What a great restaurant!! It has a great atmosphere - lots of spanish-type music, really friendly staff, great food and the crayons to draw on the tablecloths with at the end of the meal are inspired! The walls of the stairs leading up to the restaurant are covered with the doodlings of past customers giving the place a really friendly, individual feel, and making you feel like you're contributing something more than just money and dirty dishes to the place. I'd highly recommend this restaurant."

Wellington
"The Welly makes Dalton the party town it is. There's nothing particularly sophisticated about it - it's just good old-fashioned fun. It's a large-ish pub with a section that's set apart as a dance floor, where you can strut/stagger your stuff (depending on your level of inebriation) to the variety of chart music (past and present) that's played. A friendly crowd and a good atmosphere means that it's a good night out for locals and visitors alike."

Film club, Tsotsi
"I really enjoyed this film. It shows a different side of South Africa to the white, confident, cricket & rugby-mad one we're usually shown, and it offers an insight into the criminal underworld which we're told blights modern South Africa. The film shows us the human side of the people involved in a township gang, who make their living by stealing and killing. Totsi, the leader, accidently steals a baby when it's left in the car he car-jacks. The overall story is somewhat predictable in that it changes his outlook on life, but it provides the backdrop for showing us the dynamics of the township and how Totsi himself ended up as the leader of a gang. I didn't like the actual ending, but when you watch the dvd there are two alternative endings, which I recommend watching and which I thought were much more fitting. Definitely a film I'd watch again."

Port Haverigg Watersports
"I'd only tried wakeboarding once before when I went here - with *very* limited results (ie floundered about in the water struggling to even get the board above the water level). But one 15 minute session with these guys and I was up and wakeboarding - not exactly like a pro, but at least I managed to get up - and it was great!! They had boards and wetsuits that fitted our short statures (which makes a BIG difference), were good teachers, and incredibly patient when we couldn't get out of the water. An all-round good experience - especially when the sun is shining!!"

Hardknott Fort
"Wet, windy and generally inhospitable in the winter, not much better in the summer, but incredible views all year round (provided the cloud doesn't obscure it). It's pretty impressive to be able to walk around the partially reconstructed ruins of a civilisation that was here 2000 years ago, and even more impressive when you consider that that the soldiers were wearing Roman tunics - they must have frozen up there!! Wellies are a definite must, as are nerves of steel for the drive up there - it almost counts as an extreme sport!!"
